Text description provided by the architects. This house is located in a town, which is 30 minutes far from the city of Cordoba, Argentina within a residential area. It is built on a ground with special features, marked slope and vistas towards the mountains are the most important ones.
The project attempts to show a house which is closed to the street and opened to the landscape while trying to find a place to relax and enjoy the quietness of the place.
The ground of 26.0 sqm x 50.0 sqm presents marked unevenness of 14.0 from the front to the background (East – West) and unevenness from 3.50 sqm from right to left, (North – South). The challenge is to adapt the functional necessities to the topography of the place without producing movements in the soil.
The functional design consists of three levels. In the third level, you can find the entrance and a strip of services by a light yard, that look onto the street limited by a blind wall; giving in this way an introspective character required by the owner. Meanwhile, at the front you can find the rooms with huge windows towards the mountains. In the second level, you can find the social space composed by a living room, a dining room and a kitchen; the last two are connected to a gallery which is tied to the yard through a balcony. In this level, the lateral enclosure towards the yard is a piece of glass from the floor to the ceiling in order to incorporate the landscape to the space at the maximum. Meanwhile, towards the front it is half buried. In this same level, we make use of the street’s slope which generates the car’s entrance connecting the car’s place with the dining room and the kitchen. In the first level, the laundry and the connection to the yard are placed.
These three levels are connected by staircase volume which between the second and third levels generates a flown space where you can read books and see the scenery.
With a pure massing that is spread on the ground and an austere language, this house copies the topography of the place and is opened to the peculiarities of the geographical landscape which the city sits on.
